Payment & Billing Policy
This page explains how payment works when an order is placed at Calena — what we accept, when the charge happens, and how the money is handled. If anything here is unclear, write to us and we'll walk through it.
Payment methods we accept
Calena takes the following at checkout:
- Visa
- Mastercard
- American Express
- PayPal
- Apple Pay
- Google Pay
- Shop Pay
A few of these options depend on the device or browser being used, so the list at checkout may be shorter than the one above.
Currency
Every price, shipping cost, tax, and total on the Calena site is shown and charged in US Dollars (USD). When a card is issued in another currency, the bank handles the conversion and may add its own fee — that part sits with the bank, and Calena can't see it or change it.
When the charge happens
Payment is authorized and captured the moment an order is placed, not when the item ships. In plain terms: the card or account is charged at checkout.
Secure processing
Payments run through PCI-DSS-compliant processors over an encrypted connection. Card details are entered directly with the processor, so Calena never sees or stores full card numbers — that information doesn't touch our own records.
Sales tax
Applicable sales tax is calculated at checkout based on the shipping destination. Since tax rules differ by state and locality, the exact amount shows on the order summary before the order is confirmed, so nothing about the final total comes as a surprise.
Verification, declines, and failed payments
Orders may be reviewed for fraud or billing errors before they're processed, and we may ask for a quick confirmation if something doesn't line up. A payment can also be declined on the bank's side — insufficient funds, an expired card, a mismatched billing address, or a security hold the bank has placed. When that happens the order won't go through; it's worth checking the card details or calling the bank, then trying again. A declined attempt sometimes leaves a temporary authorization hold that the bank clears on its own. No completed charge is taken for an order that didn't go through.
What shows on the statement
The billing descriptor appears as "CALENA" or something close to it on the card or account statement. If a charge looks unfamiliar, that's the line to look for.
